Free Subscriptions Due to School Closings

Due to school closings in our country, parents and teachers in trying to find ways to keep kids focused on learning and educational projects away from the classroom. Below is a list of many businesses offering free access and subscriptions to their services during the coronavirus pandemic.  Please note some of the offers are directed toward educators, and others toward parents and students.  We've included descriptions and links to their website.  

123 Homeschool for ME - Free printable worksheets and educational activities to help making learning fun. Resources arranged by grade or subject.


2Simple - Purple Mash is a website designed for children aged 3-11. It contains many creative tools ie: coding, animation, publishing, art and also applications for maths, spelling and grammar.


AdmitHub - AdmitHub developed the first student communication platform powered by artificial intelligence, specifically designed for higher education.


ABCMouse/Adventure Academy - Age of Learning provides schools closed due to the coronavirus with free home access for all affected families to leading digital education programs ABCmouse, Adventure Academy, and ReadingIQ. Programs serve students in preschool / pre-k, elementary school, and middle school.  


ALBERT - Albert.io has resources for both middle and high school, through AP level.


Alchemie - The Mechanisms app allows students to learn and practice reaction mechanisms by moving and manipulating individual bonds and electrons. Instructors can assign specific puzzle problems through the Epiphany Dashboard.


American Chemistry Society - ChemMatters magazines, targeted for high schoolers, available online. In addition to chemistry, there are article that are biographies of chemists, and historical articles.


Backpack Sciences -  This is a free video series on how to teach science without the overwhelm.


Boardmaker - Boardmaker is a collection of standardized picture symbols used for communication with students who are strong visual learners. This includes those with autism spectrum disorders, Down Syndrome, speech and language disorders, and behavioral disorders.


BookCreator App - So, we’re supporting you in two ways. Firstly, we’d like to offer everyone the ability to collaborate together on books in real-time. This is a premium feature that is usually only available with a paid subscription, but we’re offering 90 days free use of this tool, to help keep students and teachers connected.  Free collaboration upgrade.

CiscoWebex - You’ll find content to support teachers and faculty to teach remotely, student and parent guides, and resources for IT to rapidly plan, deploy, and onboard users.


CK-12 Foundation - Each lesson has a reading passage, videos, optional review questions, and self-graded practice questions. The lessons can be assigned to Google Classroom and it puts the grade in that students got on the practice questions (students must get 10 practice questions correct to get 100%).


ClassDojo - ClassDojo is an excellent tool for parent communication, sharing information, and portfolios provide a platform for teachers to assign and students to complete and submit work online.


ClassHook - Increase student engagement and retention.  Easily find educational videos from TV shows and movies to use in your lessons


Classtime - Classtime supports teachers to make home-based learning engaging and effective for students of all ages with their interactive and simple assessment solution. IDEA - Free and can be self driven and they get a certificate from buckingham palace!


InThinking - InThinking promotes and supports the development of high quality educational resources which incorporate cutting-edge ideas, encourage independent thinking, and help students to prepare effectively for exams.


i-Ready - Free printable K-8 Math and Reading packets for students


Izzit.org - We offer FREE, high-quality educational materials to educators: teachers, homeschoolers, parents, grandparents, scout troop leaders – to anyone interested in learning/teaching!


Kahoot - Education institutions can get free access to Kahoot! Premium to empower distance and online learning and engage students anywhere, anytime.  Students can complete self-paced games by themselves at home, on a mobile device or computer. This game mode helps students stay on track with their curriculum, even when they can’t attend school. Teachers can also access over 40 million free and ready-to-play games on various subjects or create their own games.


Kami - As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread globally, we want to help students continue learning remotely. KET’s PBS Learning Media - Videos, games, lesson plans and supplemental materials can be searched by grade level, subject area, keyword and standard. And PBS LearningMedia's Google Classroom integration makes it easy to share resources with your entire class. Content contributors include KET, PBS, PBS Kids, NASA, the National Archives, the Library of Congress and many more.


Khan Academy - We are a nonprofit organization with free educational resources.  We offer exercises, quizzes, and tests so students can practice and master skills, as well as instructional videos to help students learn or review material.


Kids Discover Online - Access Kids Discover's award-winning library of science and social studies material on any device, at any time, for one low price.


Kognity - We have adapted the traditional textbook to digitally consumable text with video examples, 3D models and practice tests to make the content more interactive and engaging. The best part is that all our textbooks are curriculum-aligned and are designed to enhance deeper learning.


LabsLand - LabsLand is providing free remote access to real STEM laboratories for schools (typically High School and a few for Middle School), colleges and universities affected by COVID-19. Most of the labs are on Arduino, Electronics, Physics; and for universities and colleges additionally FPGA’s. All the laboratories are real, not simulations. See below for details on how to request access: you can create a free space for your school and then you will be able to manage your students (using Google Classroom, Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and others).  Free access to all of our laboratories until summer 2020.


Learning Apps - LearningApps.org is a Web 2.0 application, to support learning and teaching processes with small interactive modules. Those modules can be used directly in learning materials, but also for self studying. 


Libby App - For digital books and audio books. Anyone with a library card (at least in whatever cities/states use Overdrive) can access it.

Manga High - Full Access to Mangahigh for Distance Learning Maths Amongst COVID-19 School Shutdowns


Microsoft Education - Microsoft Teams for Education provides an online classroom so students and teachers can find new ways to continue to focus on learning. Free for schools and universities, Teams provides an online classroom that brings together virtual face-to-face connections, assignments, files and conversations into a single place accessible on either mobile, tablet, PC or browser.  


Minecraft: Education Edition - A game-based learning platform that promotes creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in an immersive digital environment.


MobyMax -  The comprehensive software curriculum spans Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies for students in grades K-8 and meets the needs of struggling students as well as those working on grade level and beyond.


Mozi - Mozi is a research-supported platform that helps instructors create writing prompts across the curriculum with a matching interface for students to construct their essays. When students use Mozi, they create focused, organized, evidence-based writing in any course.


MusicFirst -  MusicFirst Classroom is the only comprehensive learning management system (LMS) for K-12 music education.  We are offering MusicFirst Classroom and the full suite of integrated software for free to any school during a closure.


Mystery Science - To help all these teachers during school closures, we at Mystery Science just finished going through all our lessons, pulling the easiest ones to do from home, and putting them all up for free on a page to make it easy. No signup required, no student login—we just want to help.


NearPod - Empower every teacher with ready-to-run K-12 lessons and an easy-to-use platform for interactive learning. Drive 100% student engagement. For student to access, it requires a code given to a teacher. 


Newsela - We take authentic content from the world’s most trusted providers and turn it into learning materials that are classroom-ready. Newsela empowers teachers to select the best content for their students, while giving administrators the assurance that all content is vetted and aligned to standards.


Nimbus Capture - It is a google extension that works similar to screencastify. Allows you to screen grab, record over presentations or record a "live" lesson.


Outschool - They are offering live webinars for teachers, for free, to share strategies for successful online / remote learning.


Otus - Otus is a free LMS, Assessment Management, and Data Analytics platform designed specifically for K-12 remote learning.  Free for an indefinite period of time for teachers, students, and families.


Packback -  Used nationwide by more than 300,000 students and instructors, Packback Questions supports instructors with curriculum and facilitation of online “Communities of Inquiry”.  Packback is providing zero cost licenses through the end of the Spring semester or academic quarter for any higher education courses moving online due to COVID-19 prevention.


Parlay - Browse the Parlay Universe, create your own topic, or ask our team to create a custom discussion prompt just for your class.

Seneca - On the front page there is a section called 'Free Teaching Resources', the topics are listed by subject and exam board. Eah section then has ppt, exam questions, videos etc - really useful.


Seterra Geography - If your school is temporarily shutting down due to coronavirus, our educational map quizzes can help you keep students engaged until it's safe to resume normal lessons.


Shmoop - Shmoop draws over 16 million monthly international users to their engaging online education resources.  For schools or districts impacted by the Coronavirus that are interested in acquiring free access for students and teachers, contact Shmoop at support@shmoop.com.  Free access to Shmoop's online resources is available now through May 31, 2020.
